Meet the creators

  • Masumi Watanabe

    Masumi Watanabe (Ibiza)

Sea Glass Designer & Macrame Weaver

Masumi Watanabe, is a sea glass jewelry and macramé weaving artist from Matsuzaki.

Being a water sports enthusiast, Masumi spends a lot of her time on the seas and coasts of Kumomi. While walking by the seashores, she likes to pick up and collect astonishing sea glass fragments and shells which she later on turns into stunning jewelry pieces with the help of the macramé technique.

With each of her pieces being unique and one-of-a-kind, she understands how to bring out the subtle natural beauty of these fragments through her creative abilities – transforming what used to be lying on the sand to being an embellishment for style. On top of that, she studied the art of knotting ropes beautifully or what is known as the macrame technique, making her pieces meticulously handknitted (with all her heart, as she says) and thus, durable.

Her commitment and passion for her craft have made her seize every opportunity to create art that offers joy not just to others but also herself – as she handpicks sea glasses and shells, and weaves wax cords by hand. All the while adoring the glistening colors of nature that can be found all over Matsuzaki's beautiful beaches as part of her creative process.

  • Mayumi Seki

    Mayumi Seki (Euonyglass)

    Burnerwork Artisan

Mayumi Seki is a local glass artist who creates uniquely designed accessories, vases and even miniature animals with burner work. She crafts art by fusing her impressions and perceptions of nature through glass as her medium. And her designs speak of abstract and unconventional as her works are free to take any form, shape, and color she likes.

The burner work process employs several warm and hot glass techniques in which pyrex glass is melted through a burner while being molded into the artist’s desired shape. From vases, and pendants to insects small enough to fit on the palm of your hand, she can transform glass into any size with very intricate details and brilliant colors blended beautifully into her work. Her jewelry pieces are also like no other as Mayumi crafts them individually by hand making no piece exactly alike.

Her works reflect her admiration for the natural world's sceneries and living creatures, as she always attempts to translate fresh ideas from it, resulting in art that provides a delight to others. In a process so technical and tedious, she is able to make something so poetical making it very plain sailing to admire and adore.
